This adaptation is an American War Film, depicting the true story of the BATTLE OF LA DRANG on the 14th of November 1965.

It is a dramatised adaptation.

A lot of American War Movies depict the Americans as the heroes and victors of the story. The American's in this film are victorious in the final charge and battle, however, this never happened and this was portrayed for dramatic purposes by the director, Randall Wallace.

HAL MOORE: "Every damn Hollywood movie got it wrong"

General Moore in a documentary said that We Were Soldiers was the first one "to get it right".

Although the film doesn't keep completely with the source material and real event, it does do its best to stay faithful.
